Your AC usually signals trouble before it quits completely. Catching these signs early can mean a simple repair instead of an emergency replacement.

Air temperature and airflow

  • Vents blowing warmer than usual on a cool setting
  • Weak airflow in one zone or the whole house
  • Long run times that never quite satisfy the thermostat

Noises and smells

Grinding, squealing, or clicking from the outdoor unit or air handler can indicate motor, bearing, or electrical issues. Musty odors may point to moisture or microbial growth in the coil or drain pan.

Ice or water

Visible frost on the refrigerant line or indoor coil often ties to low airflow, low refrigerant, or a stuck component. Turn the system off and call — running it iced-up can damage the compressor.

Utility bills

A sudden jump in summer electric use without a heat wave or rate change can mean the system is cycling inefficiently. We measure pressures, temperatures, and amp draw to pinpoint the cause.
